It’s so true. Love the piece. I do also find it differs by city. Like in mumbai I find it a lot less than when I lived in Lucknow. But that comment about madam is incharge from the husband or other male with me, I don’t know it fills me with a boiling rage. Like there is a wink wink nudge nudge acknowledgment of the hysterical woman who needs to be humoured and this giving charge is sanctioned by the two men. May just be me. Don’t know how others feel.

We have experienced this so often..electricians assuming we won't understand what is being said and wanting to address the man of the house..the funny thing is my dad used to hate dealing with them and would prefer to enjoy his nap while we took care of the task..I even remembering telling one of these guys that I am the one who knows the problem and not sahab!!

This resonates.on so many levels mahima and I doubt if you can call this short. There's loads you've spoken about.

You speak from every woman's heart. More power to your pen/ keyboard.

Can I just say I love you? And special credit for committing to your writing on a day as chaotic as yours would have been. I can truly relate to whatever you wrote and laughed out for some time on the inner Komolika :D

Tonnes of stories to add to this when we meet over drinks. The most stark being paying the restaurant bills, my sales officers explaining to awestruck girls watching me give instructions that they are listening to me since I am educated and a driver who I had to fire since he didn't listen to me at all...And since I just watched The Post again, and saw some of this dramatized with panache, will recommend to you when the dust settles on your move. Best wishes for it:)

Hahaha I remember these stories from when we last spoke, and was thinking of them this week myself! And you may absolutely and anytime say that you love me. The feeling is mutual! 😍😍😍

How did it go Mahima? Do tell us pliss?

Thankfully in this case, I can virtue signal with confidence because this is something I do a lot. We have encountered these situations a lot and everytime I would ask the vendor to present the bill to the madam as it is her party/treat. Puzzled looks and at times resigned looks greeted me.

Let me share something more - vendors who come to house - In my observation (17 odd years) are better behaved if they are from the southern part of India. Those who come from up north, have a big ego. Lived experience.

Lovely lovely lovely post!

Thank you thank you! It went as smoothly as was possible. A relatively evolved crop of men came to work who quickly figured who to take instructions from. I was driving around on my scooter with one of them riding pillion at one point. Suffice to say, gave them enough gossip to last a few generations :)
