I have done all of those things. Been in a hotel room that someone tried to break into (but had a physical chain disrupt the attempt), insisted on hotel rooms with physical latches, put up tables if that's not available. Mentally thought of exits. I love the other issues you brought up- on family's reaction. Bringing up another for you- the starkly different cities i lived me, changed me as a person, took away so much of the safety burden, allowing me to go out with my girls at night, talk and laugh loudly- addagiri you may call it, something I couldn't even imagine in the other city. Even the way I dressed did change. Safety does genuinely lift so much of the burden. Another reason, of course for women to raise their voices in demanding it, rather than thinking of it as luxury.

So well put GG! And though I'm a Delhi girl through and through, I'll always love Mumbai for this freedom you're talking about which I've experienced in no other Indian city so far ❤️
