Another great story Mahima and even to greater level of truth and reality.

I believe, women like Reshma having made a way for herself through these challenges, can motivate a great deal and pull up many other girls interested in such careers to overcome millions of doubts in eyes of society and prosper to another level in this field.

I am a big advocate of supporting other females wherever possible and I guess if we all do that the change is to happen.

Courage! Reshma! Salute to you!

Looking forward to more "Womaning in India" Mahima. All the very best.

Thank you for writing this, Mahima. This is such a powerful story that we all need to read. I retired from the Air Force last year after serving for ten years, and I'm constantly in awe of the first women who donned the uniform 30 years ago. They braved prejudices and made our lives as women in the military easier. Reshma is doing a great service, giving women a chance to aspire to roles they may not dream of otherwise. And you're doing a great job by spreading the word... I didn't know there is such a vocation.

More power to Reshma and to you!

May her tribe increase!

Humans probably learnt to float across to the other bank on a log chasing their 'food' before they invented the wheel. Maritime is indeed among the oldest professions and it is so huge that the inertia it has gathered doesn't allow it to change. Women have made inroads and not all men have accepted them. Among the few who do, some do it reluctantly.

But there are many professional maritime organisations that have women at the helm. This could be the time when they are able to exert their influence to get 9 out 9 on the bench or as close as they can get. Women have to be represented in the boardrooms to open that door wider. And break that glass up there!
