Review: Rocky aur Barbie ki Womaning Kahaani
Issue #105: An insane conversation with a guest I adore
Hello ji,
Sometimes you make art just for yourself.
This episode of the Womaning podcast is that for me.
After I had a chance to (finally!) catch the two recent phenomena of cinema - Barbie and Rocky aur Rani kii Prem Kahaani - I really wanted to talk to someone about what both these movies are saying, and what their commercial success means.
I knew immediately who the perfect person to talk to about this would be, but I did not know her personally. So, for the first time, I took a deep breath and cold-DMed someone.
Shreemi Verma is a movie critic, writer, quizzer, journalist, and all-around awesome person who I have been a fan of for a long time now.
Our movie tastes are eerily alike - I mean, I don’t know a third human on this planet who routinely goes back to rewatch ‘Mujhse Dosti Karoge!’
Lucky for me, Shreemi accepted. We recorded the episode just last week and I edited it in record time because I could not wait to get this one out.
Just look at the random, amazing, nonsense stuff we discussed in this episode:
Our favourite moments from both movies
Is this Karan Johar 2.0?
Did Dhanalakshmi deserve the ending she gets in the movie?
Are Rocky and Rani a better couple than Bunny and Naina?
Which is that movie in which Ryan Gosling is in love with a sex doll?
Should Barbie have fed Ken to crocodiles, a la Khoon Bhari Maang?
Was one of us PMSing when we recorded this?
Here is the full video of this insane conversation:
And here is the audio version, also available on all the podcasting apps the mind can fathom (Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Castbox, Pocket Casts, Castro, and Podcast Addict):
I hope you like it!
If you don’t - remember - I made it for me.
And if you do, call me next time you watch ‘Mujhse Dosti Karoge!’
