The big Womaning announcement is here 📢
Issue #109: Introducing the Humaning Storytelling Course
Hello ji,
And welcome to a brave new world.
One where I can do web-design! (You might not care about this, but I have successfully blown my own mind in the past few weeks so it deserves a mention.)
But more importantly, one where I invite you to come and join a writing course I have curated especially for my readers, to share what I have learned in all these years of bringing this newsletter to you.
If you are thinking - SAY NO MORE, I AM IN! - you can stop reading now and click here to register for the course.
For those reading on, here is the full story.
Recently a friend sent me a screenshot of an email I wrote about 15 years back whr i typ lyk dis.
So I don’t think it is an exaggeration to say that my writing has come a long way over the years.
One of the forces behind this evolution has been the earth-shattering realization that ‘great’ is more readable than ‘gr8’ and ‘that, them, there’ are vast improvements over ‘dat, dem, der’.
But it would be arrogant to hog all the credit for this evolution myself.
Along the way, I have been inspired, guided, and mentored by many teachers. I have learned a lot from other writers - some with their consent through formal writing courses, and some through careful internet stalking of their work.
I figure it is time to give back.
And in that backdrop comes the Humaning Storytelling Course - a live online writing course from me to you ❤️
The Who-ing What-ing Course, again?
So I know the name is a mouthful, but here’s why:
In writing each Womaning in India post, the thing that I spend the most time on is conducting interviews with women (sometimes men too) and then writing and rewriting their stories over and over again.
So the one craft that writing Womaning in India has given me a chance to hone the most is Storytelling - specifically telling real stories from the lives of others.
(I believe the technical term for this is biographical storytelling, but we don’t need to worry about the name as much as the craft itself.)
Having written over 500 Womaning stories so far, I think I have something of value to share on the subject of Storytelling.
Now, the lens I write with, of course, is Womaning. But this craft of telling stories can be applied to any other lens as well.
Hence, the name Humaning - to capture the much larger scope this form of storytelling has, far beyond Womaning.
You probably have more questions.
How much of a time commitment does the course mean?
When do the first batches/cohorts start?
Is there an application process?
How much does it cost?
All these and more have been answered on the course website (which I am shocked to have designed myself!)
To register for the course, just fill the form on the website. If you are interested in the course - but the dates of the first two cohorts do not work for you - still fill the form to join the course waitlist, and get priority in future cohorts.
In the meantime, please keep sharing the dramatic, filmy, dhinchak posts - like the one below - which I will post on Twitter, Insta, and all the other places in the days to come.
See you in class!
Congratulations Mahima! What a brilliant initiative ! I'll definitely spread the word.
Congratulations! :D
